Description
This is a beautiful quality giclee photo on Epson pro glossy photo paper printed with archival inks ofthe late Hawaii surfing legend Derek Ho turning off the bottom on a giant 15 foot wave at one of the most famous surf
breaks in the world. Derek was a world class pro surfer, born in Hawaii and started surfing at
the age of three. He won the World champion title at age 29 in 1993, and in 1994 won the Duke
Kahanamoku Invitational, surfed in 24 of the Triple Crown of Surfing contests, winning four
times (1984, '86, 88, and '90). He is the brother of Michael Ho, who is also a famous local pro
and Hawaiian legend who also won and surfed in countless competitions. Derek is also uncle
of professional surfers Mason Ho, and Coco Ho. Derek finished his ASP career in 1998 with
nine top 16 finishes. He was considered one of the few Pipeline masters, and one of Hawaii's
most famous, respected, and well known surfers, a true Hawaii surf legend! He was also a friend of the photographer. Sadly Derek passed
away in March 2020 and we got permission to offer this image just two months before he passed. Hopefully this photo will help preserve his memory in surfing history.
Derek at the Banzai Pipeline, (Ehukai Beach) bottom turning on a 15 foot wave, by longtime Hawaii professional surfing photographer Bill Romerhaus. It is shrink wrapped to protect it from damage,
cropped to fit, and mounted on a single 8x10 inch mat board **which includes margins as part of the print (see photo)
and has photography and preservation tips included in the label on the back. It is initialed ('BR') in the lower corner. Pipeline is one the more famous surf breaks in the world, and many professional contests are held there each year. Its waves are some of the most powerful on earth, generated by far distant North Pacific Ocean storms during the winter months (Sept-March). They are an incredible example of the ocean's mightiness. Native Hawaiians, surfers, and a lot of oriental people consider these magnificent waves to be a supreme example of power and manifested with the spirit of mother nature. To actually see these waves breaking along the shoreline is an awesome, humbling, and unforgettable experience.
It would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who knew Derek, likes this surf break, the north shore, or surfing images of Hawaii.
They are popular reasonably priced decorations
for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.

e-Bay's transfer process and the computer screen may make the photo look contrasty and slightly darker or lighter, depending on your monitor brightness and contrast settings. The color hues may look slightly different and may have a different tonal range and brightness than you may see on your individual computer screen. Please be aware of this. **When it is attached to the single mat 8x10" backing board you will be able to see the backing board around the white borders of the print (which you can see if you look at the photo.) An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo. Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using archival photo adhesive and cannot be easily removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. If you want to use a larger frame and can't figure out how to do it with the photo mounted on the backing board, contact us and we can explain how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10 inch frame and displaying the image as is.
